Why New York has a skyscraper without windows
33 Thomas street is a 29-story skyscraper in New York city with no windows and blank walls around the perimeter.
The real reason this Manhattan skyscraper has no windows is a highly classified state secret that we only know because of leaked documents from the National Security Agency (NSA) and investigative journalists.
The skyscraper in question is known by two names: some call it the Long Lines Building, while others simply call it 33 Thomas Street.
Until recently, not much was known about this building. The only available information about it: the building was built between 1969 and 1974 by AT&T, designed by architect John Karl Warneke, and served as a telephone switchboard, primarily routing AT&t long-distance phone calls.
Telephone switches require enhanced security, and should work even in the event of natural and man-made disasters.
The architect claimed that the lack of windows in 33 Thomas Street was dictated by the need to design a building that could survive a nuclear explosion and still support the operation of telephones.
But according to recently published data, this may be convenient for another reason. According to the Intercept report, 33 Thomas Street is not just an AT&t switching center. AT&t Had several empty floors, so they were kind enough to rent them out to the National security Agency. This is where the service is located to listen and track phone calls, faxes, satellite signals, and intercept Internet data.
In 2013, NSA employee Edward Snowden released secret documents showing that the us intelligence agencies conduct total surveillance of information communications between citizens of many countries around the world. Published documents often mentioned a mysterious surveillance site called TITANPOINTE, but its location was so secret that even Snowden did not have access to it.
However, there is reason to believe that 33 Thomas Street is actually the mysterious TITANPOINTE.
One document States that TITANPOINTE is located in new York. In another — the building is controlled by LITHIUM, which is known to be the NSA code name for AT & T. Sources also mention that TITANPOINTE is engaged in interception of satellite communications, and in new York there is only one facility operated by AT&T and has ground — based satellite stations-33 Thomas Street.
There was other evidence: for example, one document stated that in order to get to TITANPOINTE, you need to pass the FBI office, which is located just a block from 33 Thomas Street.
The Intercept described the building as “one of the most important national security Agency surveillance sites on U.S. soil”.
